This weekend I completed a mixed media canvas for a competition I saw in the mixed media magazine Cloth Paper Scissors. I love this magazine and is one of the only art magazines I’ve found that has a focus on mixed media.
It’s been a while since I put a new post up on the blog, partly because I got flu and wasn’t able to do anything but sleep for a week. I felt a little uninspired with my sculpting and wasn’t sure what art I wanted to make, so I just got out my art journal and started making marks on the page with paints, pens, Dylusions sprays, soft pastels and pencils. As I did this I found myself getting back into my art journaling and did a few more pages over the last week.
My last page, the girl with orange hair I filmed as I made it and put it together as a video on my YouTube channel. I want to do more video projects, although the lighting in my room isn’t the best. I think it helps to try other mediums when you feel uninspired, it doesn’t have to be any big project just messing around with paints on the page is enough to get you back into a creative mind set. I’ve ordered some more Dylusions paints because they are really good and so vivid, I’m looking forward to doing more pages in my journal and even adding in college.
I’ve wanted to do this for a while and since this a5 Dylusions journal is almost full and tearing at the seems, I thought it would be cool to film my flip through! Plus I did a little intro to the video 😀
I really haven’t got the hang of talking to myself yet and look down a lot, but I actually enjoyed doing it. Must practice some more! I’ve also added a few pictures of my favourite pages in my journal. I’m looking forward to starting my nice new journal. I think I should experiment a lot more, my favourite pages are ones that are different from my usual style.
Hope you like!
I made another little video here and used a black primer for the background and my favourite Posca Pens to draw the flowers. I love the affect 🙂 I want to make more videos although they do take a lot of time.
I’ve dedicated so much time to my mixed media projects recently that my art journaling got kind of neglected. If only there were more hours in the day! And these didn’t get filled up with chores, work, travelling, sleeping…. Anyway, I’ve started working in my new smaller art journal, which is really cute and also gives a different perspective to creating something on a page.
I love how colourful this page is, I think it is a good expression of myself as a person. It came about in an organic way as I just used different paints and mixed them into each other. I did find it a little tricky to draw over as my journal is really fat now, but I like how it turned out.
This is a something I made recently for my sister’s birthday. I had the theme of ‘shabby chic’ in mind as that is something she likes. It was lots of fun to make, although I would like to find a better way to prep chipboard as it did warp a little.
With all my art journal pages, I will start out with a very small idea and see where it takes me. I wanted to use a shimmery, light background and love how the pink and blue mixed here. The stars where made using a stencil and moulding paste, and once dry I painted them silver. I then added the foliage with stamps and black ink, used different punches for the flowers and cut out the bird.
I’ve been poorly this week with a virus and had to come home from work. I was really bored last night and my brain was a bit fried for my art journal, so I decided to make these. I really like how they turned out.
I recently got black and white Dylusions sprays and a large stars stencil which I was dying to play around with, and this is the end result. I wanted to add layers to this page and the floating flowers give an interesting touch. As I created the face on the right I kept thinking how it reminded me of someone asleep, there thoughts drifting onto the other side of the page. As I like to incorporate text into my pages I wrote across the dreamers face. But you can’t really tell if it is a dream or a nightmare. It wasn’t until I had almost finished this that I realised it is quite autumnal, which I like.
