This bird was half planned in my brain partly because I wanted to do another video with the sprays and that I wanted to focus my doodle pattern into a coherent image. It turned out OK although I know I can do better.
A free-style doodle page on a mixed sprayed background. I wanted to try some new combination of colours and love how the orange bleeds into the red and purple. I used a stencil with black sprays across the bottom and right side, then using a larger black pen, drew a random squiggle across the pages. Using that as a base, I began filling out the rest of the page.
I really sprayed a lot with this background, using black, blue, purple, green and slightly shimmery sprays, as well as water. It has come apart a little at the seems as I got carried away! But overall I love how it turned out – I think it may have worked better if the page was portrait though and I could fit in a longer tail. I also used my favourite Poca Paint pens and some Distress glitter to give it some details.
I’ve dedicated so much time to my mixed media projects recently that my art journaling got kind of neglected. If only there were more hours in the day! And these didn’t get filled up with chores, work, travelling, sleeping…. Anyway, I’ve started working in my new smaller art journal, which is really cute and also gives a different perspective to creating something on a page.
I have been so productive with my art journal, I think because I’m really excited to be using my new materials! This one looks quite dark, I think because I used so many things on the page, including grunge paste which I scrapped into, then dylusions sprays, acrylic paint, pen, and grunge paper I die cut into the flowers, butterflies and hearts. I am still quite happy the way it came out as I think it is quite interesting and gave me the opportunity to play with my art and enjoy the process much more.
I love the colours of this page (which I scanned in) and I used the grunge paste more sparingly with a stencil to get a different effect. I also made my second video of me making this which you can watch here:
I’d love to hear what you think!
